Information about Rick Welsh
Rick Welsh has been a licensed speech-language pathologist since 1980 and an educational consultant since 1994. He has designed an effective system for co-teaching and adapting instruction which can be easily applied to most inclusion classrooms. This model yields positive results for teachers and students alike. Rick learns a lot from each school that he visits and will pass this knowledge on to your staff in his workshops on team teaching and integrated services. School systems in fifteen states, Washington DC and St. Petersburg Russia have hosted Rick's training program. His presentation style is fast pace, entertaining and loaded with practical information. He speaks from experience and has a gift for involving all persons attending his workshops.
Rick does more than talk about co-teaching and adapting instruction. He visits schools and actually demonstrates the effectiveness of his model in classrooms. During these visits, Rick helps the building staff develop the skills needed to effectively co-teach and adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners found in today's classrooms.
An essential part of Rick's visitations is a diagnostic observation of each inclusion classroom that will serve as a locus of training. He has developed software which allows him to observe teachers and students and provide immediate analysis of data. Administrators across the country find the software very useful for collecting data during observations of teaching staff. Psychologists and behavior specialists use the software for observations to support RTI, Positive Behavior Support and behavioral referrals.
Rick is multilingual and has conducted bilingual speech language assessment of Russian speaking children in Brooklyn, NY. As a result of his work in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he lectured on his methodologies and materials, he now coordinates the Bring Russia to your Classroom project. This entertaining and informative program has acquainted thousands of US adults and children with the language, culture and daily life of modern day Russia and former Soviet Union.
Music is another of Rick's interests. He plays guitar, sings and writes music. His Kiddie Koncerts facilitate language development through music for students ages 3 to 6. His concern for the environment led him to create 3 musical programs for students from grades K through 8. He travels extensively performing Songs for the Earth, Songs for Earth and Ocean and Environmental Songfest which encourage children and adults to preserve our planet for future generations.
